The Monster Mopar Weekend is one of the most popular Mopar events, which combines Mopar Drag Racing, Mopar Car Shows, Mopar Swap Meets, and a large Mopar Vendor Midway. It is promoted by S&S Promotions out of St. Louis, and held at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, IL (just outside of St. Louis MO) for a three-day-weekend each September.

There are two popular events which has the "Monster" standout from other events. The first is the gathering of the NASCAR inspired Superbirds, Daytonas, and Charger 500s in the show area, which are allowed to make a couple of parade laps on Gateway's NASCAR track. The other is the Dave Duell Classic, which is the largest Nostalgia Super Stock event of the year -- often referred to as the NSS Nationals.

History

The first Monster Mopar Weekend was in 1984, and it has grown into one of the largest and more popular Mopar Events ever since. It was typically held the weekend after Labor Day, until 2007 when NASCAR decided that it wanted to schedule it's Truck Race for that weekend -- and Gateway bumped the Monster to a different weekend.

2010 Summary

Dave Duell Classic

The Dave Duell classic is the largest and one of the most popular of the Drag Racing Classes. The class features Nostalgia Super Stock cars running under the Standardized NSS Rules[1].

Unlike any of the other classes of drag racing at the Monster, NSS is open to all Manufacturer Makes of Nostalgia Super Stock recognized cars -- and not just to Mopars. It is also arranged and policed by the NSS group -- and not by the track. Dave Duell (driver of Drag'n Wag'n) was the man who originally lined up the sponsors, arranged the Driver's dinner, and handled the other details to make all go smooth and professionally organized. Around Christmas of 2006 Dave passed away, and the NSS drivers for the NSS portion of the event to forever be known as the "Dave Duell Classic" in his honor. His son, Doug Duell now handles the detail of organizing the Dave Duell Classic, and the driving chores of the Drag'n Wag'n.

Approximately 80 cars compete in the Dave Duell Classic. The NSS Schedule is as follows:
