Background:
History:
Rambler introduced the Marlin as a 1965 Model. It was a sporty fastback derived from the compact Rambler Classic, much the same way the Plymouth Barracuda was a sporty fastback version of the Valiant, the Dodge Charger was a sporty fastback version of the Coronet, and the Ford Mustang was a sporty fastback derived from the Falcon. The roofline didn't quite look right on the short Classic, so in 1967 the Marlin was based on the larger Ambassador. It was discontinued with the release of the Javelin in 1968.
Model Predecessor
No real predecessor, although the Tarpon was a Concept Car that might have inspired the Marlin.
Model Successor
The AMC Marlin was replaced by the AMC Javelin for 1968.
