Beginnings of a Wiki, feel free to improve

As it applies to drag racing, the staging lanes is an area of a race track that has a collection (usually six to ten) of lanes where the racers get in line for their pass.

Generally the racers are called to the staging area ("called to the lanes") based on the class they race in, or the type of tree. Track officials then open on or two of the staging lanes to move up to the drag strip.
