As it applies to drag racing, it is the final phase of a drag racing event, where competitors are matched to race against each other on a competition ladder, usually based on the qualifying rounds. The loser of the match is eliminated from the event, and the winner moves up the ladder to race in the next round until there is a single event winner remains.
