A trans brake is a type of transmission racing valve body that will engage both reverse and 1st gear at the same time when the racer pushes a switch, usually a button. This is done at the starting line when the drag car has finished staging for the race. When the button is released it releases reverse and the car moves forward. The benefits to the racer are:
- better [[reaction times]
- consistent RPM launches
- activating other electronics used in bracket racing
- holds the car from rolling out of the staging beams
