the first TorqueFlite was the revolutionary A-488, called the best automatic transmission in the world. it was replaced with the A-727 in 1962. the A-488 had a cast iron casing wich made it about 60 pounds heavier than the A-727. it had a pump in both the front and rear. this alowed it to be "bump started"
