A-488
The first TorqueFlite was the revolutionary A-488, called the best automatic transmission in the world. it was replaced with the A-727 in 1962. The A-488 had a cast iron casing wich made it about 60 pounds heavier than the A-727. It had a pump in both the front and rear. This alowed it to be "bump started."
