Introduction

While many people will refer to the Imperial as a Chrysler Imperial, for at least some of the name's life it was its own make. Prior to the 1967 model year, the Imperial used body-on-frame construction. The Imperial is mostly known for the Imperial Crown and the Crown Imperial.

Before 1962

From 1957 to 1962, the at least some Imperials had Virgil Exner's Forward-Look Styling.

1962 and after

When Virgil Exner left the company in 1961, Elwood Engel replaced him and restyled the Imperial. At first, simply toning down the Exner-styled models for the 1962 model year. For the 1964 model year, the Imperial received all new styling.
